Join us to celebrate a decade of doing things differently: a bikepacking weekender into the heart of Sussex, sleeping and dining amid the rewilded beauty of Knepp.

NOW UPDATED AND EVEN BETTER, WITH PRIVATE MASON CAMP, MINI-SAFARI AND TENT SHUTTLE

2024 marks ten years since the foundation of MASON Cycles: ten years since Dom and Julie established a progressive bike company that wasn’t afraid to blaze new trails and do things differently.

  • Ten years of going against norms and expectations.
  • Ten years guided by progressive principles.
  • Ten years of finding creative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Ten years of showing the world the goodness that comes out of Sussex.
  • Ten years of working with experts and friends to create something special.

It’s time to celebrate. And the best celebrations involve a bike ride, a shared meal with friends, a campfire and maybe a few beers.

We’ve chosen a special space to mark a special anniversary. Somewhere that shares MASON’s belief in progressive thinking and doing things the right way – not necessarily the easy way.

The Knepp Estate in the Sussex Weald is a world-renowned showcase for the ethos and practice of rewilding. Twenty years ago, the estate’s owners cast aside the industrial norms of intensive farming, and returned 3,500 acres to nature. Under the careful stewardship of ecology experts, this area of Sussex wilderness is now thriving, supporting an ecosystem that is home to deer, beavers, cattle, pigs, storks and untold species of flora.

Join us for a bikepacking weekend that connects our very special bicycles to the landscape that inspires their design. We’ve arranged an itinerary to remember:

Saturday 21 September

  • Start at the MASON Barn for a round of locally sourced refreshments and a tour of MASON Cycles, guided by Dom Mason, before we depart.
  • Enjoy an off-road ride from the MASON Barn over the South Downs and into the Sussex Weald, led by the local guides of Marmalade MTB, on a mix of downland trails and quiet lanes. Pre-book a choice of ride level: medium or long. The emphasis for all groups is on fun, relaxation and enjoying the Sussex landscapes, with a chilled pace.
  • All rides are mostly off-road and are suitable for gravel and adventure bikes with min 35mm tyres.
  • Carry your sleeping and camping gear, in true bikepacking style, or let us know if you'd like us to transport your tent in our support van, which will meet us at Knepp.
  • Expected distances for the rides are around 40km (25 miles), and 56km (35 miles).
  • Ride waypoints will include iconic local sights such as Chanctonbury Ring, Wiston winery, various other vineyards, Shipley windmill, picturesque Sussex villages, the River Adur, and the wider Knepp area itself.
  • At Knepp, set up camp on our own private location at the heart of the estate, surrounded by the sounds of nature, while storks circle overhead. Bring your bikepacking gear, ask us about shuttling a tent for you.

  • Travel to dinner in style, as miltary off-road vehicles chauffer us through Knepp's rewilded terrain. Look out for Knepp's semi-wild pigs, dows, deer and horses.

  • Gather in Knepp’s Wilding Kitchen restaurant, for a shared evening meal of sustainable produce grown from the land around us. Expect to sample Knepp’s own wild range meat and zero-miles organic vegetables.

  • Our off-road safari vehicles bring us home from dinner.

  • Relax round an evening campfire, as we share stories and toast ten years of riding bikes together.

  • Sleep well, comfortable in your tent or bikepacking set-up, amid the calm of nature.

Sunday 22 September

  • Wake up surrounded by birdsong: nature’s best alarm clock.

  • Enjoy Julie's tasty bircher muesli and fruit, cook up your own camp breakfast, or return to the Wilding café for more organic goodness.

  • Learn about Knepp’s famous rewilding journey, with an expert talk from an ecologist.

  • Saddle up for a return to the MASON Barn with Marmalade MTB: another meandering route through the South Downs National Park towards the MASON Barn by the Sussex coast. Expected distances are around 32km (20 miles), and 40km (25 miles).

This will be a special weekend to share with the MASON community. We’d love you to join us to celebrate our first decade of doing things differently. Whether you’re a MASON owner or just a MASON fan, it’s time to get your bike and your bikepacking gear prepared for an adventure.

Would you like to try a MASON bike from our demo fleet? This could be the ideal opportunity. Contact us to check availability.
