Ready? GO!
Hi Becky! What’s your history with cycling?
I raced track and road nationally from 10 to 15 years old, which was great fun but also very competitive. I managed to become National Champion a few times which was cool! Since then, riding for me is more about exploring and having a good time!
What fired your passion for the outdoors and adventure?
I guess it was a fresh start for me from leaving cycling racing and I wanted to discover more about myself and the outdoor world, to see different places by a range of human-powered adventures.
Do you have particular heroes or role models who inspire you?
There’s so many inspiring people. I’m a huge fan of these climbers that just go off and live in the backcountry for long periods, just bagging peaks and that becomes their whole life obsession which is extreme dedication!
Chris Mccandless, Jon Krakauer, Fred Beckey
In your video, it looks like you really enjoyed the Atlas Mountain Race! How was the experience?
Overall it was incredible. Lots of highs and lots of lows!
How was the Macro?
The Macro was a delight, and extremely comfortable to ride. It felt very stable over this challenging terrain and was an awesome first test for the bike.
265 started this year's AMR and you were the 130th finisher.
That's an impressive achievement! How does it feel?
I’m very chuffed with that! I was so shocked to find so many people scratching but I completely understand because at points I was feeling the same but glad I pushed through those low moments!
A big women's field this year too, any thoughts on that?
So so happy to see more and more women each year getting into the sport! I also love seeing a range of ages at these races too - very inspiring!
Did you use everything you took with you to Morocco?
Pretty much. I would have taken a smaller quilt in hindsight – and a lot less food!
What was your essential item?
Electrolytes!
Any advice for riders getting into events like this?
Prepare well on and off the bike and believe in yourself!
What is the most important one thing that you have learned from this experience?
I love sleep! (Haha!)
All good things in life are challenging
Your body can do incredible things when you really want something
What's next?
Hiking the Arizona Trail. Time to rest the cycling legs!
