Audax is one of the oldest event formats in endurance cycling, with a heritage going back to the late 19th century. It's about long-distance, self-supported set routes, completed within time limits. Audax prioritises endurance, navigation, and self-reliance over speed or competition.

With thousands of Audax events every year, the GranGuanche stands out for a couple of key reasons.

During a cold European winter, its route winds its way across Spain's Canary Islands, off the coast of northwest Africa. This multi-island itinerary makes the GranGuanche largely reliant on ferries – and any ride with a water-crossing brings even more adventure and potential for logistical drama – as well as an opportunity for riders to recover and feed between stages.

Having completed the GranGuanche Audax Trail event in 2021 on an ISO, MASON-supported rider Josh Ibbett this time turned his focus to the road-based version of this beautiful route, with his MASON Resolution as his weapon of choice.

And in Josh's brilliantly candid way, he has shared this video that tracks his experience through three days of Canarian adventure...

Josh's ride of choice for the 2026 GranGuanche was his MASON Resolution3. In recent years, Josh's bike for endurance tarmac events has been an aluminium Definition3, but in 2025, he switched to a Resolution, eager to see how our steel 'all-road' option would help him tackle the long, hard events in his schedule.

It seems Josh and his Resolution have become the perfect long-distance match. We always love Josh's 'gear check' videos, so here he is explaining the bike, wheels, clothing and equipment that carried him around the Canaries...
