After nearly two years of designing, prototyping, testing and racing, one of the most eagerly awaited bicycles in a decade of MASON is now available.

The MASON Macro is the new lightweight configurable adventure hardtail designed by Dom Mason. It was born from the demands of ultra endurance racing, but will more than satisfy the needs of lightweight bikepackers and off-road tourers.

  • Mason x Dedacciai aluminum frame, welded in Italy
  • MASON HotShoe2 carbon fork
  • Suspension fork compatibility that preserves frame geometry and fast, comfortable handling
  • Maximised carrying options for loads and fluids, with 28 eyelets distributed over 8 accessory locations
  • MASON’s most configurable cable routing yet, with options for integrated, internal, electronic or a combination
  • 29” wheels with clearance for 2.4” tyres
  • Optional MASON Shutter load-bearing fender, and/or Condenser front rack
  • UDH (Universal Derailleur Hanger) dropouts
  • Two launch edition colours with ‘Decade of Details’ graphics: Grigio Tecno and limited-release TiltShift metallic

I'm really excited about the Macro. It totally embodies all aspects of our 'Ride Driven Design' ethos and progressive philosophy. From the full custom tubeset and HotShoe2 carbon fork though to details like UDH compatibility and innovative routing, the MASON Macro provides a cutting edge tool for those who want to adventure with purpose.

– Dom Mason, designer

A lot has gone into the Macro. It was inspired by feedback from MASON riders like Josh Ibbett, Angus Young and Phillipa Battye, taking on some of the toughest terrain on the global ultra circuit while craving lightweight portability and reliable attachments for gear and water.

However, though it was the demands of ultra racing that brought the Macro onto Dom’s drawing board, as he worked on this new machine, the Macro started to emarge as a promising bike for so many riders and reasons.

Among the myriad adventures of bikepacking and off-road touring, many riders prefer flat bars for the roughest terrain, so early prototypes gathered interest not just from ultra racers but from bikepackers seeking maximum versatility and light weight.

Dom explains his priorities:

This is all about configurability. I wanted the rider to have as much control as possible over the way they set this bike up. That’s why I’ve spent lots of time working on the cable routing, the accessory mounts and the readiness for suspension forks. The Macro can be easily switched around for different adventures.

Dom has backed up his vision with a host of charcteristically careful details that bring this goal of configurability into reality: details like accessory mounts exactly where you need to maximise load-carrying options, and strategically positioned MultiPorts for cable-routing flexibility – together with a specially selected headset from Deda to minimise cable clutter.

Every bike in the MASON range proudly bears witness Dom's attention to detail, but the new Macro has so many special touches and so many clever innovations that it may well be the most detailed MASON yet.

So, is the Macro a mountain bike? It’s no secret that Dom’s MTB roots inspire many of MASON’s all-season, all-terrain details. But he’s insistent:

The Macro is – first and foremost – a configurable adventure hardtail. Can you use it as a fast trail bike or lightweight XC bike? Let’s see how people choose to set it up!

The MASON Macro is open for pre-order now, for expected delivery around January 2025. It’s available as a frameset (with carbon fork), or as full SRAM or Shimano build.
