MACRO FRAMESET
Our NEW lightweight configurable adventure hardtail
The MASON Macro combines the capability to carry bikepacking gear across variable off-road terrain, with the imperative to keep moving at racing speed. Build a lightweight, flat bar, fully rigid bikepacking machine or combine the Macro with a suspension fork to enhance comfort, control and momentum on extended, fast, multi-terrain adventures with more challenging trail conditions.
The Macro is highly configurable, conceived around bikepacking loads, accessory attachment and fluid-carrying capacity from the outset. It is designed for customisation, allowing the rider to fine tune a configuration that matches their requirements and planned adventures.
Select an optimum load and bottle formation from 28 eyelets ranged over 8 mounting points. Maximise space for front-mounted loads with integrated cable routing that minimises bar clutter, choose conventional internal routing if you prefer, or use a combination of both to tune the Macro exactly to your requirements.
Transform the Macro for diverse terrain by switching seamlessly between MASON’s own load-carrying carbon fibre HotShoe2 fork or 100-120mm of suspension, with geometry corrected to work efficiently in either mode. This flexibility even extends as far as switching from a flat bar format to drop bars. The Macro is as truly adaptable as you are.
The Macro's commitment to progressive details and innovation continues into the dropouts, where the inclusion of a UDH (Universal Derailleur Hanger) ensures compatibility with the latest drivetrain conventions.
RideDrivenDesign
The Macro has been tested in the world’s toughest environments. The Silk Road Mountain Race, Accursed Race, Atlas Mountain Race and the Arizona Trail have already established the Macro as vital equipment for MASON riders Josh Ibbett and Angus Young, as they take on the extreme environments of ultra endurance races.
Away from the racing scene, the light weight and configurability of the Macro create an ideal platform for bikepacking. Multiple mounting points and careful details give unrivalled options for carrying gear – whether you’re equipping for a lightweight overnighter or an extended tour.
The MASON Macro is now available for pre-order – available as a frameset or a fully built bike customised to match your adventures with SRAM or Shimano components.
Whichever options you choose to personalise your Macro frameset, we include a Deda headset, our own MASON thru-axles and all the high-quality bolts, clamps and guides needed to transform your MASON Macro frame into your dream bicycle.
The MASON Macro Launch Edition will be available with special 'Decade of Details' badging and a choice of colours: GrigioTecno or limited release TiltShift Metallic.

This page gives you some guidelines based on rider height, but these are only a starting point for a proper bike fitting. There are of course many other factors to consider when choosing the right size for you and sizing advice will vary depending on your choice of model from the Mason range and the way that you intend to ride it. We're always here to help of course and would always recommend a professional bike fitting and visiting us for a ride on the Mason Cycles riverside gravel/country lanes test-loop if you can. There is further advice, based on specific models, below the height chart.
Fitting a bike to a rider is an important process, this information is a start to the process but it’s not really possible to give 100% accurate fitting instructions online.
Humans are odd shapes, each person’s physical dimensions: arm, torso, femur length, level of flexibility, skill level and intended model usage are very different. This means that there will invariably be different frame size requirements, even for people of the same height and inseam.
SIZING ADVICE BASED ON MASON MODELS
ROAD, ALL-ROAD & GRAVEL - Aspect | Resolution | Definition | SLR | BokehTi | Bokeh | Exposure: Size range is 48cm to 62cm depending on specific model. The chart dimensions show the extremes of useable frame size based on height and the rider size range is very similar for all our frames with 6 or 8 standard sizes.
ULTIMATE ADVENTURE - InSearchOf: Size range is 42cm to 58cm [5 sizes]. As a start point, we would recommend selecting one size down from your normal 'road' frame size. For example, if you would normally ride a 54cm then a 50cm InSearchOf is probably best for you.
ADVENTURE HARDTAIL - RAW | Macro: Size range is Sml to XL [4 sizes]. With the advent of modern, more progressive mountain bike geometry, the sizing process is even more fluid. The Mason RAW and Macro are no different: seat tube lengths are kept deliberately low so riders have a certain amount of flexibility in choosing size based on their preferred reach, wheelbase, handling characteristics and intended use. For instance, for high speed and loaded up stability you may prefer a larger frame that will also provide more pack space in the front triangle. Or, if you are spending most of your time on twisty woodland singletrack, you’d benefit from the shorter wheelbase and extra response of the smaller frame.
We are experienced in sizing and geometry, so of course we will be on the end of the phone or email to help and advise, but we would always recommend having a proper bike fit done before committing, especially if you feel like you may be between sizes. If you do fall between our frame sizes, it’s probably best to go with the smaller size. It’s easier to make a smaller frame fit a little larger than vice versa.
CONFIGURATION: With all models, you can use our drop down menus to configure your finishing kit to suit your needs, including which brake lever operates front/rear wheel and for MTB we’re happy to cut down the handlebar to your desired width.
Please email us here or call 01273 463000 if you have further requirements that you would like to discuss, we are always happy to help.
CUSTOM MASON X DEDACCIAI TUBING: 7000 SERIES/ENDURANCE OPTIMISED
The entire Macro tubeset was developed in conjunction with Italian tube gurus Dedacciai, using their lightweight 7000 series, 29er, Aluminium tubing. The tubes are drawn from billet in their Italian factory and then shaped and formed to MASON spec. ENDURANCE OPTIMISED: We work closely with the engineers at Dedacciai to optimise all tube shapes and dimensions, for comfort, durability and pedalling performance. Along with strength for mounting points and proper clearance for modern wheels, tyres and transmissions.
Threaded Bottom Brackets
We choose a more traditional 68mm BSA, and T47 threaded standard for our frames because we know that it gives greater durability and creak-free reliability over many miles. The threaded BB is easier to service using standard tools and you are more likely to find a replacement when adventuring far from home. A properly lubricated, threaded BB is also an ideal interface with a metal BB shell.
UDH Equipped
This frame is equipped with the 'UDH' [Universal Derailleur Hanger]. The 'Universal Hanger' standardises the shape and fixed position of the hanger across the industry and is compatible with all modern rear mech types from all major brands.
Our UDH dropouts are compatible with all SRAM 'T-Type/Transmission' rear mech models, and any future rear mechs and gearing systems that are designed to work with the UDH standard.
Switchlever
This model uses SwitchLever Thru-Axles front and rear. This high quality axle system features a removable lever to be used with both axles. Store the lever in the front axle for quick use or remove completely for extra security and a clean, low-profile look.
DROPPER-READY: Macro
A dropper-post is great for getting the saddle out of the way for steeper, rougher and more technical riding, especially with a loaded up bike.
The 31.6 post size allows the use of most modern dropper-posts. The dropper control cable can be routed through the Macro frame, using 'Integrated' routing via the head tube, or 'Internal' routing through one of the down tube 'MultiPorts'.
Important: Scroll to see 'essential dimensions' with maximum dropper length details.
HotShoe2 Carbon Fork
As with all our framesets, we design and tool for our own fork. Both the MASON ISO and Macro use our MASON HotShoe2 carbon fork. The refined shape maintains ride quality and feel and there are multiple mounting points for accessories, including our TriMount on the fork crown for ‘MASON Shutter’ load-bearing fender and 'MASON Condenser' rack. Internal routing for hose and dynamo wire and light mount on crown. Huge clearance for up to 29 x 2.6" tyres.
Fully tested to MTB standard with 483mm crown height [equal to a typical 100mm travel XC fork inc. sag] and 50mm offset.
100MM SUSPENSION FORK
The Macro is designed around a 100mm suspension fork with a static axle to crown height of 503mm and an offset of 45mm. This is the ideal amount of fork travel to help keep momentum on fast, rough, multi-terrain adventures, where washboard or steeper descents with drop-offs may be encountered.
56MM INTEGRATED HEAD TUBE
The Macro uses a specially developed Ø56mm, straight head tube. The large diameter and thick wall dimensions maximise strength and weld area at this crucial junction of the frame. Oversize Ø52mm bearings at the top and base have a large contact area and give increased durability.
Large internal porting optimises space for 'Integrated Cable Routing' if required. Use Deda 'S-DCR' style headset and top-cover for Integrated Routing.
8 x Fluid/Accessory Mounts: Macro
The Macro is designed for long-distance bikepacking and adventure riding, so the frame and HotShoe2 fork are fitted with plenty of fluid and accessory mounts. There are 2 x bottle/accessory mounts on the HotShoe2 fork, as well as our TriMount for MASON 'Condenser' rack and 'Shutter' load-bearing fender. There are also threaded rack mount eyelets on the seat stays and dropouts.
Standard frame mount bosses: x3 down tube (top side); x2 down tube (underneath); x2 seat tube; x2 top tube for securing a top tube pack. Multiple eyelets allow accessory adjustment for efficient use of front-triangle space. All eyelet positions are optimised, meaning fluid carrying and bag space are maximised within the frame. The 4th accessory/tool-keg/fluid mount, is mounted as low as possible under the down tube, giving space for a larger bottle or bag, whilst still maintaining clearance for larger wheels/tyres.
CONFIGURABLE ROUTING
The Macro is designed to be highly adaptable and configurable, this includes 'configurable cable routing options'. Choose to route your hoses/cables through the head tube & frame, giving unobstructed mounting space for essential frame bags, or route through the down tube MultiPorts. Choose a combination of both routing styles to work seamlessly with your chosen bike, bag and accessory setup - Route the hoses 'integrated' and your dropper-post cable 'internal', or just the brake hose integrated when running electronic shifting, for a super clean and unobstructed setup.
The idea is that you are not forced in any direction by the frame design and you can adapt and evolve the Macro to suit every adventure and as component design progresses.
BOOST Spacing
148 x 12 at the rear and 110 x 15 at the front for max compatibility with modern MTB wheels. Boost spacing allows us to optimise frame clearance and stability and run large rim widths and big volume tyres.
THREADED BB: Macro
The Macro frames use high quality MASON design, 73mm, BSA, threaded bottom brackets. The BB shell is machined from billet in Italy and gives greater durability and creak-free reliability over many miles. The threaded BB is easier to service using standard tools and you are more likely to find a replacement when adventuring far from home. A properly lubricated, threaded BB is an ideal interface with a metal BB shell.
Thru-BB
'Thru-BB' is unique to MASON aluminium frames. The large 56mmØ presents a large weld area to the base of the down tube and then steps down to the 68mm [road/gravel] & 73mm [MTB] width threaded seats. This step-down provides plenty of space around the outside of the bottom-bracket bearings to allow the control cables and hose to pass through on the way to the chain stays/seat tube and out to the brake, rear mech, dropper-post etc.
IMPORTANT: This BB shell design requires the use of a bottom bracket with a 24mm or 30mm 'sleeved' axle like most Shimano or SRAM DUB, because the hose/cables/control wires run through the shell and under the axle. DO NOT use a bottom bracket type without a sleeve. Campagnolo sleeves are available on the site HERE. Please contact us if you would like advice on compatible cranksets/BB types.
160/180 Flat-Mount
Our HotShoe2 [Macro & InSearchOf] and RangeFinder [SLR, Exposure, Bokeh3] forks, were amongst the first carbon forks to have Flat-Mount compatability for 160 and 180mm rotors. This allows for controllable, dependable stopping power when riding loaded and in steep, rough conditions.
Shutter Mudguard
ISO tested to 2kg and specific to the HotShoe TriMount. Standard equipment with ISO framesets and bikes. The Shutter helps keep dirt and water away from the rider, meaning you stay fresher on longer rides + it keeps your packs cleaner/dryer. The load platform is for bulky/lighter loads or frequently accessed items, It's ideal for something like a sleeping mat, bivvy bag or jacket etc in drybag. it avoids having to always use a bar-bag which can be annoying and restrict hand positions and mounting points. The flare at the front is for max coverage with large tyres to help stop stuff blowing back, the 'kickup' at the rear is to stop water/grit being hurled into the headset to prolong the bearing life.
1X DRIVETRAIN SPECIFIC
Designed specifically around the latest 12 speed mountain bike drivetrains allowing for greater tyre clearance, chain security and performance in muddy conditions. Ultra wide gearing options provide ample range for any terrain.
29ER
Large diameter wheels and tyres are extremely fast-rolling, with a big contact-patch and low rolling resistance. Bikes with 29" wheels are ideal for long-distance adventure, giving speed, comfort and forgiving handling, over an extremely wide range of terrain.
The MASON RAW is designed for 29” MTB wheels and tyres up to 2.6”. Recommended tyre sizes: 29 x 2.3” - 29 x 2.6”.
The MASON Macro is designed for 29” MTB wheels and tyres up to 2.4”. Recommended tyre sizes: 29 x 2.0” - 29 x 2.4”.
CATAFORESI ANTI-CORROSION TREATED
This frame is Cataforesi anti-corrosion treated, inside and outside of frame tubes, before acrylic primer, topcoat and 2 tough clearcoats.
ISO Testing
All our framesets complete the intensive strength and fatigue testing to fully comply with ISO standards. The AdventureSport range of frames are put through the tough road race ISO testing, with its brutal Horizontal Fatigue test, with the Parallax and RangeFinder & HotShoe2 forks going through the MTB test with its even tougher 'Drop Testing' standards. We also 'overtest' by applying extra loading to fork cargo eyelets for example. Our Adventure Hardtail frames frames are ISO tested to very tough MTB standards. Because of this we are confident that these frames will last you a lifetime of hard riding.
Where one of our designs does not properly fit an ISO category, we work with the testing facility to devise our own testing schedule. It's not law that frames and forks have to be tested to their limits like this, but our frames will always be tested in this way, so you can be sure that your MASON frame not only looks beautiful with a ride quality to match, but it is tough, safe and dependable too.
ESSENTIAL DIMENSIONS: Macro
BRAKING
Rotor Size: The rear rotor diameter will be 160mm with the calliper mounted directly to the brake mount. An adapter can be used for a 180mm rear rotor maximum.
Caliper Type: This frame is designed for Post-Mount calipers. Use specific 'Flat-Mount to Post-Mount' adapter when fitting Post-Mount caliper to MASON 'HotShoe2' fork.
We always recommend using genuine brake mounting hardware and consulting us directly using the 'Technical' dropdown, or using a qualified cycle mechanic if in doubt.
WHEELS + AXLE SPACING
The Macro is designed around the 'BOOST' 148mm hub standard, allowing wider wheels and high volume tyres with larger clearances front and rear. The wider hub flanges result in a stiffer wheel, giving enhanced bike handling and shorter/wider stays allow progressive geometry, whilst a wider rear hub helps give a greater choice of chainrings.
SwitchLever: Ø15mm Thru-axle Front [For HotShoe2] / Ø12mm Thru-axle rear.
Axle length/pitch: Front [For HotShoe2] - 134mm/1.5tpi. Rear - 178mm/1.0tpi [For 'UDH'].
